OUR VINEYARDS

AMONG THE SANDY LANDS OF THE PO DELTA

SAND, HEAT AND MIST

Sand, heat and mist, these are the defining features of the Bosco Eliceo area.
In this unique environment, a special bond between vine and territory naturally formed, giving rise over centuries to a wine affectionately known as “forest wine” or “sand wine”.

This is one of the few areas in Europe where vineyards have resisted the devastation of phylloxera. In sandy soils, this insect cannot damage the root systems, allowing the cultivation of own-rooted vines (franco di piede), meaning vines grown on their original, ungrafted roots.

TERROIR,
WHERE THE VINE
MEETS THE SANDS

A key feature of this territory is the presence of ancient marine dune ridges, formed over centuries by the shifting coastline. These ridges have soils composed of up to 95% sand, with shallow groundwater tables, ideal conditions for vine cultivation.

As for the climate, this is one of the warmest areas in Emilia-Romagna. However, the proximity to the sea ensures a good day-night temperature range, which plays a vital role in developing and preserving the aromatic profile of the grapes.
